Description:
Job Summary:

Under indirect supervision, performs variety of maintenance, repairs, installation, fabrication, and construction duties as journeyman in one or combination of craft skills; provides maintenance supervisor with shift and work schedules for assigned maintenance personnel; trains subordinates to insure quality and improve their skill levels; assigns work to subordinates to ensure work is accomplished within given priorities.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Plans, coordinates, schedule, work, orients and/or trains assigned subordinates; maintains records of all work assigned and completed assuring quality of work and timely completion of same in order to meet service standards set for department.

  • Inspects, repairs, maintains, fabricates, and/or installs non-contracted operating systems, machinery, equipment and tools according to manufacturers or employers specifications, using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments based on work orders or ability to inspect and observe critical needs.

  • Repairs, maintains and operates control systems of advanced equipment assigned to General Maintenance Department (e.g. HVAC, electrical distribution, PTS, communications, medical gases and refrigeration); ensures proper system performance; performs more difficult and exacting tasks requiring considerable variety of skills and training.

  • Monitors and researches in preparation of requisitions for repair parts to ensure timely processing of orders; ensures shop repair parts and stock inventories are properly maintained and parts reordered at prescribed levels; consults with maintenance workers in ordering required parts.

  • High School Diploma or GED. Minimum two (2) years of education in trade school or comparable work experience.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Driver's License (Hawaii)
Additional Requirements:

  • Experience as general maintenance technician with proficiency in at least two trade crafts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in leadership, problem solving, customer service, interpersonal relations, time management, decision making, oral communication, and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Universal Technician by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Advanced training in one or more trade disciplines (e.g. air conditioning/refrigeration, electrical and/or plumbing).
