Job Summary:

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is responsible for gaining more comprehensive knowledge and leveraging it to perform periodic inspections on construction projects of various scopes and receives training for future inspector duties (e.g., onsite inspection under some direction of a certified Inspector of Record (IOR), Material Testing Laboratory training, report writing, code review, ability to review construction documents; performing basic inspection tasks under some supervision (e.g., make simple measurements or observations, keep records, and gather data and information); receiving on-the-job training in the basic elements of construction inspection; informing team members with observation and compliance updates; learning guideline materials; and learning to recognize and understand the purpose of various guides, manuals, and terminology associated with construction work.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Completes work assignments by applying up-to-date knowledge in subject area to meet deadlines; follows procedures and policies, and applies data and resources to support projects or initiatives with limited guidance and/or sponsorship. Supports the completion of priorities, deadlines, and expectations. Identifies and speaks up for ways to address improvement opportunities.

  • Supports construction operations by: providing general guidance and coordination with the support team following narrowly defined parameters; using judgment and discretion to select the most appropriate action or procedure to assist with the resolution of problems; and communicating between the project team and others in the broader organization.

  • Supports construction deliverables by: working on larger components of projects with oversight from more senior project managers; developing and executing project plans independently or under the direction of others; assisting with project financials by monitoring financial aspects for assigned project initiatives; monitoring project performance against plan under the guidance of more senior project managers; assisting with the coordination of project activities related to organizational change management (e.g., development and execution of user adoption, implementation, and training plans) as defined by the project; and allocating resources, establishing schedules, and makes task assignments with some oversight from more senior project managers.

  • Contributes to vendor relationship management by: supporting vendor relationship management and assisting with vendor assessments through updating department databases with changes to vendors active status as needed, providing guidance to tier one vendors with challenges to meet requalification financial criteria; and obtaining necessary documentation from vendors to complete annual vendor requalification and documenting vendors file as appropriate.

  • Acts in accordance with KP compliance by: utilizing a basic knowledge of the precepts of Corporate Compliance and Principles of Responsibility to maintain confidentiality, protect the assets of the organization, act with integrity, report observed fraud and abuse, and comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws and program policies and procedures.

  • Contributes to the management of knowledge and documents by: utilizing existing documentation to build and enhance working knowledge of policies and procedures.

  • Supports the use of data and metrics throughout construction management process by: performing standard data entry to support planning and scoping with guidance from a supervisor; and building a foundational awareness of using metrics to monitor and improve ones own performance.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Minimum four (4) years of experiences in commercial or institutional building projects as the representative in testing, inspection, or observation of construction for an architect, engineer, owner, local building official, local fire authority, testing lab, specialty contractor, or general contractor, planning, architectural, design, engineering, CADD, hospital/medical facility, health and safety administration/management, construction estimating.

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, Computer Sciences, or related field OR Minimum one (1) years of experience in construction management, field construction, design, construction/project management software, procurement, contract administration, a directly related field.


  • Division of State Architect Project Inspector Certification Class 3 OR Electrical Inspector (ICC) - E5 Certification OR California Commercial Electrical Inspector (ICC) - I2 Certification OR Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) Certification
