The Enterprise Strategy & Business Development (ESBD) team at Kaiser Permanente is seeking dynamic leaders to drive enterprise strategy, growth, business development, and innovation. This role will be responsible for shaping and executing short and long-term strategies, transactions and large-scale implementations that align with Kaiser Permanente’s mission – improving quality, accelerating growth, enhancing relevance, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.-
- Prepares individuals for growth opportunities and advancement; builds internal collaborative networks for self and others. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; drives collaboration to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to foster performance improvement. Demonstrates continuous learning; oversees the recruitment, selection, and development of talent; ensures performance management guidelines and expectations to achieve business needs. Stays up to date with organizational best practices, processes, benchmarks, and industry trends; shares best practices within and across teams. Motivates and empowers teams; maintains a highly skilled and engaged workforce by aligning resource plans with business objectives. Provides guidance when difficult decisions need to be made; creates opportunities for expanded scope of decision making and impact.
- Oversees the operation of multiple units within a department by identifying member and operational needs; ensures the management of work assignment completion; translates business strategy into actionable business requirements; ensures products and/or services meet member requirements and expectations while aligning with organizational strategies. Gains cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; assumes responsibility for decision making; sets standards, measures progress, and fosters resolution of escalated issues. Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporates them into business plans; prioritizes and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; ensures teams accomplish business objectives.
- Leads the creation and execution of strategies that support KPs mission by partnering with executive leadership to plan and implement short-term and long-term strategies and tactics that support KPs ability to achieve improved quality and outcomes, accelerated growth, increased relevance and influence across the United States, and ongoing financial sustainability; directing strategy for and execution of business development activities and new opportunities for growth that align with the organizations long-term strategy; leading complex and multistakeholder strategy development processes; evaluating progress against strategic initiatives; and gaining a comprehensive understanding of KPs business models and the overall competitive landscape to enable informed decision-making and strategic planning.
- Drives the design and execution of plans that gain support from executive leadership and governance bodies by directing market research to identify opportunities and threats that affect the KP growth agenda and mission; conducting financial and economic modeling to support strategic initiatives; monitoring the effectiveness of existing strategies and suggesting adjustments to executive leadership; proactively identifying and mitigating risks associated with strategic plans; translating broad corporate strategies into clear, specific objectives and plans; creating and presenting methodologies to gain support and approval from executive leadership; and serving as a key leader in directing and communicating strategic decisions and enterprise-wide pipeline activities over time to ensure transparency and alignment with the organizations strategic goals.
- Oversees relationships with internal, external, and cross-functional stakeholders by developing and maintaining strong relationships with key business and functional partners (e.g., leaders from health plans, finance, IT, Regional, Permanente, Risant, KPMF, and other national functions) to ensure alignment and support across all levels of the organization; serving as a visible leader who engages with stakeholders throughout the organization to foster collaboration and alignment with the companys goals; cultivating a network of external peers, delivery system leaders, consultants, bankers, and other marketplace experts to stay informed about industry trends and opportunities; and promoting the appropriate engagement of internal and external parties in all activities, including 3rd party consultants, investment bankers, communications/GR, legal, compliance, finance, and other functions critical to the successful business development initiatives.
- Directs the development of repeatable processes by designing methodologies for the identification, evaluation, prioritization, selection, negotiation, and execution of transactions, new business launches, and integrations; monitoring the application of these methodologies to ensure that they are applied consistently and effectively across the organization; executing an approach to program, project, and performance management that integrates strategy with day-to-day operations; utilizing regional and national strategies and capabilities to encourage and facilitate active sharing of new learnings and innovations; assessing unreliable, poorly controlled, ineffective, inconsistent, and duplicative processes and functions to improve overall performance; coordinating successful collaboration between regional departments and resources throughout the organization; and implementing strategies to ensure ongoing compliance with local, state, federal, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversees the development and growth of businesses and partnerships by identifying potential transactions and opportunities (e.g., M&A, partnerships, new business units, subsidiaries, and investments); guiding new businesses from startup to self-sufficiency; designing a business development roadmap aligned with KPs strategy, driving growth and innovation; directing highly complex investments and transactions in care delivery, health plans, and health care technology; developing and implementing a business development function that supports the long-term goals of the growing KP enterprise (including KFH/HP, KPMF, Risant, and other new businesses); and executing functions across strategy, business development, and transformation to provide comprehensive solutions.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university AND minimum eight (8) years of experience in business administration, healthcare administration or a directly related field, OR Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university AND minimum six (6) years of experience working for a management consulting firm, investment fund, or investment bank.
- Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience with or without direct reports, including minimum two (2) years of formal supervisory experience.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience building and developing high-performing teams.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience building and/or executing a wide range of enterprise strategies, or strategic investments, ventures, or partnerships.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience managing complex programs, deal diligence, and/or integrations.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience developing agendas and materials for executive and/or board audiences.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience handling sensitive information with utmost discretion and confidentiality.
- Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience within a matrixed organization with or without direct reports.
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Six (6) years of experience in corporate, partnership, and/or relationship management in new business start-up including health systems, physicians, and other diversified businesses.
- Six (6) years of experience in managing complex transactions within healthcare delivery.
- Three (3) years of experience in healthcare.
