The Patient Business Services Disability Claims Processor is responsible for abstracting medical information and diagnosis, using ICD-9 codes as required. Coordinates disability claims with employers, insurance carriers, Unions, State Disability Offices, Workers Compensation and/or other third party payers.
Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal and local laws. Screens disability claims, interviews patients, locates and orders medical records. Abstracts medical information and diagnoses using ICD-9 codes. Screens correspondence of State, Federal, and commercial disability claim forms. Assembles bills/reports and sends to appropriate payer/collections. Reviews authorization for release of medical information. Follows original and supplemental disability claims with physicians until the patient disability claim has ended. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnel. Performs other duties as required.
High School Diploma/GED One (1) year relevant experience in health care industry Demonstrated ability to utilize Medical Terminology and International Classification Diagnosis (ICD -9) coding at a level appropriate to the job Typing 45 WPM or as required by Medical Center
