Job Summary:

The Regional President position is a critical senior-level leadership role as both the market’s senior health plan leader with direct P&L accountability and as a leader for the overall KP Program. The Regional President is directly accountable for ensuring that Kaiser Permanente develops the capability to deliver superior quality care and service, while also appropriately deploying its resources and positioning itself in the Georgia market and in the industry to deliver superior quality care and service and to achieve long-term success and viability. The Regional President is directly accountable for understanding and anticipating industry trends and for the delivery of hospital and health plan care and services to members and customers in the Georgia market and accomplishes this in partnership with The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG). The Regional President also works in partnership with the Health Plan Operations team in the delivery of health plan products and services. The Regional President is accountable for assuring continual assessment of market opportunities/challenges and developing and implementing business and operational plans which address growth/market share, service and quality of care, work environment, employer of choice climate, revenue, cost and margin targets, capital requirements, and community involvement. The Regional President must balance and represent the multiple perspectives and priorities of the Georgia market and the enterprise through an inclusive leadership approach. The success of the Regional President is evaluated against the successful candidate’s ability and competence to produce the desired results within the market, while supporting enterprise initiatives to create balance and alignment. The Regional President is accountable for sponsoring and championing local and enterprise initiatives in the Georgia market, including cultivating the support necessary to achieve the desired objectives of the initiative. As an active member of the Regional Presidents’ Group (RPG), the Regional President participates in the development of program-wide strategy on operational issues related to capital and business plans, budgets, performance improvement measures, governance boards, and investing in shared services capabilities to support the program. The Presidents are co-owners of specific key initiatives sponsored by the National Executive Team (NET) and the Permanente Medical Groups and the ongoing evaluation of these initiatives. The Regional President may also actively serve as a liaison to a major enterprise function.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Drive operational excellence by executing on the Strategic Plan focused on accelerated growth in market share, access and exceptional care experience, clinical quality outcomes, financial performance, and community involvement and leadership.

  • Own the market’s P&L, managing a budget to support performance and growth.

  • Create a vision, strategy, and capacity for growth (existing and new markets) and market leadership.

  • Manage future growth amid rapidly evolving market dynamics.

  • Own and lead the brand, the health plan, and healthcare delivery program in the market to ensure growth and sustainability.

  • Drive capital planning processes to include facilities and IT.

  • Wield resources and capabilities by engaging and leveraging shared services (e.g., health plan operations shared service team to deliver health plan products that meet the market’s needs).

  • Drive innovation, transformation, and performance improvement initiatives that achieve growth, affordability, service, and quality objectives. 

  • Stay abreast of the competitive market, industry, and government and regulatory environment to anticipate and assess implications for the local market and enterprise.

  • Develop a strong community and brand presence in the local market.

  • Own the vision and direction of the market; leading change by engaging and influencing others and leading effectively in a shared service model with the health plan and medical group.

  • Demonstrate enterprise leadership – participate in the Regional President Group (RPG) and the National Executive Team (NET); sponsor and develop program-wide strategies and align market/enterprise strategies and initiatives.

  • Manage organizational and local Board governance.

  • Establish and leverage effective relationships in the community with business, government, and community leaders.

  • Build relationships with leaders of healthcare systems in the local market to deliver care.

  • Develop a high performing leadership team, building leadership capacity and bench strength.

  • Create and cultivate a diverse and inclusive work environment.

  • Drive and own building a sustained, engaged, and committed workforce and high performing culture that supports KP’s mission and enterprise/market/local objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of broad experience, including strong leadership and management.


Education


  • Bachelor’s degree or executive graduate level work OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field

  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.

Additional Requirements:


  • Experience around building high performing teams and a culture of accountability along with in-depth knowledge and expertise in contracting and network development in a managed care environment.

  • Successful performance as a P&L owner with a deep understanding of healthcare delivery and health plan operations and a track record of growth and positive financial results of commercial products.

  • The Regional President must have demonstrated leadership capacity to assume direct accountability for operations producing multi billion dollars in revenue and the ability to lead, motivate, coach, develop, and mentor people to achieve agreed-upon results.

  • Ideally, the successful candidate will bring direct experience in the Georgia healthcare delivery market with an understanding of state and local regulatory dynamics.

  • Prior experience working in a complex payer organization, possessing facilitation, negotiation, and consensus building skills.

  • The Regional President must have strong financial acumen, strategic thinking capacity, effective communication skills, and a proven track record of building and maintaining effective partnerships with all internal and external constituents. The successful candidate must be a leader who demonstrates the capacity to understand, appreciate, and advance local market values and culture.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior experience working in an integrated delivery system or provider-sponsored plan is a plus.

  • MBA preferred.
