Inspired to make a difference.
As a psychologist at Kaiser Permanente, Amanda’s journey into the field was driven by her love of science and a deep passion for helping others. From the start, she wanted a career that offered variety, and clinical psychology fit the bill perfectly — providing her with opportunities to not only offer care, but also to conduct research and supervise the next generation of psychologists. Kaiser Permanente’s Mental Health Training Program was transformational in this regard, empowering her to grow in many areas and setting her up for a career she truly loves.
A meaningful experience.
Amanda’s story with us began as a pre-doctoral intern at Kaiser Permanente Fresno (2020-2021), followed by a postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo (2021-2022). There, she worked in specialty trauma care, and it was one of the most influential experiences in her career. As part of a dedicated team delivering evidence-based interventions, she witnessed the power of collaboration and innovation in improving patient outcomes. “Working with a team driven to provide the absolute best patient care reinforced my passion for offering interventions backed by science.”
Finding greater fulfillment.
Now a psychologist at Kaiser Permanente Fairfield and the Mental Health Training Program Liaison, Amanda serves as the Co-Training Director of the Kaiser Permanente Napa Solano Internship Program. She finds her work gratifying, especially in supporting members recovering from trauma. “Helping people reduce PTSD symptoms and watching their overall well-being improve is the highlight of my job. Seeing members transition from struggling to thriving is incredibly rewarding.”
A better approach to care.
Amanda believes in Kaiser Permanente’s emphasis on the connection between mental and physical health. This perspective has shaped her holistic approach to care, allowing her to better support members in achieving overall well-being. She credits our collaborative environment with fostering her own integrated understanding of health and creating opportunities to learn and grow.
Thriving in Kaiser Permanente's culture of excellence.
Amanda describes Kaiser Permanente as a place where diverse opportunities and supportive teams make for an exceptional career. From participating in the Mental Health Training Program to serving on committees, she’s found so many ways to diversify her work experience and stay engaged. “Kaiser Permanente offers so much to build a fulfilling career. The teams are exceptional, and everyone is committed to providing the best care.”
Advice to aspiring psychologists.
Amanda’s own experience at Kaiser Permanente underscores the value in finding a supportive and collaborative environment to shape one’s career. She’s also energized by the increased visibility of psychology and resulting opportunities. “Mental health is gaining the attention it deserves, and with that comes the chance to innovate and make a difference.”
