Description:
Under indirect supervision, operates dual energy x-ray absorptiometry ( DXA ) and/or other densitometry equipment in order to perform scans of the lumbar spine, proximal femur and/or forearm that measure the calcium content of bones and are utilized by physicians to screen for, diagnose, manage and treat osteoporosis and other metabolic diseases. Exercises technical judgment in order to obtain a computerized image of the tested area, bone density measurements and a computer-generated comparison of the patients measurements with normal age-specific measurements.
Job Summary:

Exhibits professional conduct in all interactions with patients and staff. Meets productivity norms established by the department Maintains equipment, supplies and work area in accordance with department guidelines. Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities : Maintains patient information and test files/data bases Interviews patients to confirm/obtain history , assesses patient history versus ordered scan Explains scan procedures to patient Prepares bone densitometry equipment for tests including the archiving of pre- and post-test data Performs bone densitometry testing as per orders/requisition and standard protocols Properly positions patient for scanning Analyzes/reviews completed scans for requisite information and body areas as per protocol Prints out data reports and provides bone densitometry scan/patient record to authorized recipients Enters clinical data into computerized data bases) May provide weekly, monthly regular reports/summaries of tests performed Complies with all continuing education requirements May perform other related duties as requested/required
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Successful completion of an on-the-job or formal education/training program in bone densitometry required as a pre-requisite to the limited license exam in bone densitometry offered by the State of California, Radiologic Health Branch.
Education
- Successful completion of an on-the-job or formal education/training program in bone densitometry required as a pre-requisite to the limited license exam in bone densitometry offered by the State of California, Radiologic Health Branch.
License, Certification, Registration
- Bone Densitometry Technologist Permit (California)
- Basic Life Support within 4 months of hire
