Based on a national study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Kaiser Permanente nurses report higher job satisfaction than nurses elsewhere. Which is something we're extremely proud to share! Contributing to these exciting results are the facts that Kaiser Permanente hospitals have better work environments, and higher nurse staffing levels than both Magnet hospitals and other hospitals in general.
The research, based on survey data collected from 564 general acute care hospitals in California, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, examined whether nurse and patient outcomes were better in Kaiser Permanente hospitals vs. in non-Kaiser Permanente hospitals.
“We are proud to be recognized as a leader in providing quality nursing care. This study validates what we know and witness every day at our medical centers: our patients benefit because Kaiser Permanente nurses are among the best in the country.”
– Marilyn Chow, vice president, National Patient Care Services and Innovation
The study found that Kaiser Permanente hospitals have an average patient-to-nurse ratio of 4.03 – 16% better than Magnet hospitals and 21% better than all other hospitals (4.82 and 5.1 patients per nurse, respectively). Additionally, our nurses have a higher level of education and a higher skill mix when compared to both Magnet and other hospitals.
Another key takeaway? The study also found that nurses at Kaiser Permanente are significantly more likely to stay at their jobs than nurses in other hospitals. This is credited to the fact that our nurses consistently report superior work environments.
All in all, we're proud to say that our nurses are not only among the best in the country, but among the most satisfied — which translates directly to more satisfied patients. Ready to join our team of highly-skilled nurses? Explore available nursing opportunities near you.
